END OF THE WORLD?

Some say on December 21, 2012 the Earth, the Sun, and the center of the galaxy (where there is a black hole) will come into exact alignment. And this is true, they will align on Dec. 21st, 2012.

It is also being said that the Earth is going to be knocked off its axis due to the extra gravity caused by this alignment. There is a problem with this claim though. They missed one minor detail. That exact alignment that people worry about...happens every December 21st…of every year. All gravity is accounted for in the Universe, beginning to end; Newton's law.

PLANET X?

By now, I'm sure you've heard about "Planet X", The mysterious (unknown and unseen) planet with an elliptical orbit that has placed it on a collision course with Earth. Well…

Planet X 2012

E. Myles Standish, a mathematical astronomer and a former professor at Yale University proved that an earlier astronomer tinkered with the clock drive in one of the telescopes while taking measurements, which gave Neptune "odd orbital parameters". Planets orbits don't just change without an external force, so the search for Neptune's orbital influence began; the search for Planet X.

Standish solved this mystery by removing this questionable data set altogether, and boom, all other data sets matched up perfectly. It was just a data glitch in one of the telescopes. Planet X literally disappeared over night after this finding, but it still pops up all over the web. So, there you have it, there is no Planet X. Keep your job, and don't do anything crazy. See you on December 22nd, 2012 folks.

A Little Perspective

Earth Size and Scale to Solar System

Interesting Facts

  • Earth rotates at 18 miles per second.
  • If you shrunk Earth down to the size of a pool ball, it would be the smoothest pool ball ever.
  • The deepest point in the Earth is Marianas Trench (6 miles deep)
  • The tallest point on Earth is Mt. Everest (5 miles)
  • 85% of all the gravity in the universe is caused by an unknown source.
  • 94% of everything that IS the universe (dark energy) can be measured, and it's there, but it's caused by something unknown.
  • The extent of the Earth's atmosphere is thinner than the shellac on a school globe.
